The Village and Location

Alvescot is a small Oxfordshire village within five miles to the medieval market town of Burford and close to the RAF base at Brize Norton. There’s one road though the village with a couple of lanes running off with mostly old Cotswold stone houses, cottages and barns with a smattering of newer homes. It has a solid feel to it with a popular village pub, The Plough and community events organised including a traditional village fete in June.

A pleasant walk up one of the lanes leads to St Peter’s Church, in a peaceful setting with parts dating back to the 12th and 13th century AD and Grade ll* listed building. There used to be a railway station at Alvescot in the 1800’s which took travellers between the market towns of Fairford and Witney which sadly closed in 1962.

Explore other small villages close by including Kencot, Broadwell, Filkins, Langford, Southrop and Shilton.
